Day 1

September 2, 2010
Here is my day one photo, taken this evening by Eddy (Swoon. I love that man.) Before today, this type of photo would meet the delete button. Fast. However, I needed a good full length Before Photo so here it is. Cankles and all.

I also stepped on the scale today. I’m not sharing that result, though. Noooooo way. Not yet, anyway. If you’re curious, just imagine what you think it is then add 50 or 60 pounds and you’ll be close. Nasty. But, hey, it’s ok. It’s a starting point.

  1. There's not enough money in the world to get me to share my weight either! I read somewhere that you should put your goal weight on a sticker and put it on your scale next to the readout - that might be a motivator for some and a hindrance for others. I haven't done it because someone will see the sticker and wonder, then they'll be grilling me about my start weight. I did go out and buy myself a good scale that measures body fat and percentage body fat and water. My doc's advice was to weigh myself daily at the same time each day, but others say weekly because your weight fluctuates so much and you don't really see changes if you do it daily.

As for me, I started the couch-to-5K program yesterday. Week one, day one. I had to "run" for 60 seconds, followed by brisk walking for 90 seconds, for 20 minutes. Well, for me "running" is more like a lumbering very slow jog. Thankfully I went at 11:30 last night and my dog is the only one who saw my attempt to "run". She loves me regardless of how bad I looked LOL!

Well, during the first few steps of "running", my knees spoke to me, and they weren't happy. I think they were saying something like "what the @#$%&* are you doing to us? We just don't move like this... STOP" I told them to shut up, and I kept going. I have to remember to wear my mouth guard next time, since I was clenching my jaw in pain the whole time. Well, after I blocked out the sound of my knees protesting, my heart kicked in and said "what the @#$%&* are you doing? Trying to make me explode?" And the my lungs brought in the chorus during my 90 seconds of walking, and they had not yet recovered when I had to start "running" again LOL! I don't think my body parts have ever had quite a conversation like that before.

Anyway, I got home, and quickly "ran" into the shower to hide the fact that I was sweating profusely and seriously hypo-oxic from my marathon-running hubby. I can't share this "Rumba project" with him - somehow I think he'd be on me daily every time I sat down or every time I ate something. Maybe that's what I need, but I think I'd really get irritable. He's just far too FIT and it really would irritate me, although he might be my biggest fan.

I get a day off from the couch-to-5K plan today, which is good because I still feel like my heart rate hasn't returned to normal LOL! I'll go for a nice peaceful walk with my doggy in the rain today instead. I can't wait to hear what my body will say to me tomorrow when I do week 1, day 2. But, I have to share that the first thing that came to my mind this morning was "I RAN last night" WOW.

  2. I was thinking some more about your amazing hubby, Eddy. Leigh, you are SO lucky. He's so supportive, and you are very blessed.
